Point Judith Pond runs north and south and is bordered by the towns of Narragansett and South Kingstown. It runs from the mouth of the Saugatucket River to the sea. Point Judith is the most developed of the salt ponds and is home to the state’s largest fishing fleet. Significant pleasure boating occurs throughout the pond. The Narragansett side is heavily developed with homes and commercial operations. The South Kingstown shores are much less developed, except for the Snug Harbor area. (click here for testing data)
Abundant resources support both recreational and commercial fishing in the mid and northern areas of the pond. Point Judith Pond also serves as a cruising destination for boaters. The Army Corp of Engineers is engaged in dredging the lower reaches of the pond for the large boats and ferry. There are many places for kayaks and small boats in Point Judith Pond, but care should be taken, because the big boats make big wakes.
The harbor at Galilee is protected by large stone breachways which make for good fishing. In the spring, the “west wall” on the Jerusalem side, is one of the first places small stripers show up. |
