Edward (Ted) Callender, Salt Ponds Coalition Vice-President and Chair, Environment Committee, joined the SPC Board in 2004. He is a retired Senior Research Hydrologist, U.S. Geological Survey, 2002. Ted's major reasons for joining SPC Board are water-quality concerns and nutrient monitoring of southern Rhode Island's Coastal Salt Ponds. He holds a doctorate in Geology with minors in chemistry and limnology. He was an Assistant Research Professor and Assistant Professor of Chemical Oceanography at the University of Michigan; and conducted water and sediment chemistry studies of the Great Lakes and Equatorial Pacific Ocean. He served as a Senior Research Hydrologist, specializing in geochemistry, for the U. S. Geological Survey and conducted nutrient geochemical studies in Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River Estuary. He also conducted paleoclimate studies on Lake Baikal (Russia) and paleo-environmental trend analysis (trace metals) of U. S. lake and reservoir sediments.
