Trustom Pond and Cards Pond are both part of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service National Refuge System. Access to both is from the Trustom Wildlife Refuge.  Both ponds are in their natural state and are not permanently breached, so they range from fresh water to brackish and are maintained for the benefit of wildlife.  The ponds serve as a habitat for migratory waterfowl and shore birds, and the woods and fields associated with the reserve attract an array of upland birds and animals. In fact, substantial portions of the reserve have been converted to grassland to provide habitat for migratory songbirds. Hiking through the reserve is really scenic and when you get to Trustom pond you can take in the lovely vista from a wooden observation deck, built in part with funds donated by the SPC. There is no boating on these ponds so they offer a unique level of solitude.
