Ninigret Pond is located entirely in Charlestown.  It is the largest of the salt ponds.  Much of the Ninigret shoreline is kept in its natural state by the state and federal agencies.  It is truly a multiple use pond serviced by three small marinas, a permanent breachway and abundant public access.  Windsurfing, kayaking, fishing and swimming are popular pastimes on the pond.  Resources of the pond support both recreational and commercial fishing.  Seasonal migratory fish such as bluefish and striped bass are caught both from boats and the shore.  Dense development along the eastern shore of the pond is leading to signs of water quality degradation, which is being addressed by the Salt Ponds Coalition.
